The range above is an indicative planning figure taken from our own research, not a quotation and not an offer. buytogethr is pre-launch and has closed no pools.

What you are actually buying

A stretcher trolley is specified by where it will work, not by what it is called. A casualty trolley needs height adjustment, trendelenburg and often a radiolucent top so films can be taken without a transfer; a routine transfer trolley needs none of that and should not be paid for. Quotations separate on castor diameter and braking, top material, whether hydraulics are fitted, and whether mattress, side rails, IV pole and cylinder holder are counted in. The mistake made most often is dimensional rather than clinical: a trolley bought without checking the lift car, corridor turns and the ramp between blocks becomes a trolley that cannot reach the department it was bought for.

Why stretchers suits collective purchasing

Stretchers standardise well and buyers are numerous, but the ticket is small, so a pooled requirement of trolleys alone rarely commands a manufacturer's attention. They pool best folded into a single ward furniture lot alongside beds, lockers and examination tables, where the combined volume is worth competing for and one delivery and commissioning schedule covers everything. Bought that way, the group can also hold the supplier to a common castor and brake standard across every institution, which is what decides whether the trolleys are still moving smoothly years later.

Pin down before price

  • Department first – casualty, transfer or imaging – with a radiolucent top where films are taken
  • Height adjustment and trendelenburg: hydraulic or fixed, and operable from which side
  • Castor diameter, central braking and corner buffers
  • Mattress, side rails, IV pole and oxygen cylinder holder itemised as in or out
  • Overall dimensions and rated load checked against lift car, corridor turns and ramps

What drives ten-year cost

  • Castors and brakes, which take the wear on a trolley that is always in motion
  • Hydraulic cylinder servicing and eventual replacement
  • Upholstery and mattress replacement
  • Frame corrosion where trolleys are washed down after every use

How a pool for this runs

1
Aggregate the demand. Institutions register a requirement and a timeline. Nothing is committed and nothing is paid — the pool simply establishes how much demand exists in one window.
2
Standardise the specification. One technical specification is written for the pooled requirement, so every bidder quotes the same machine. Clinical and engineering specification is never traded away for price.
3
Qualify the suppliers. OEMs and authorised distributors are qualified on manufacturer authorisation, past performance, end-user certificates, financials and demonstration — before any price is opened.
4
Run the price competition. Only technically qualified bidders enter an online reverse auction, with a minimum decrement and automatic extension so the close cannot be sniped.
5
Award on ten-year cost. Lowest is judged on total cost of ownership over ten years — machine, turnkey, software, accessories, transport, insurance, taxes, warranty, maintenance contract, tubes, uptime and training.
6
Buy directly, individually. Each institution raises its own purchase order against the negotiated price and pays the OEM or dealer directly. buytogethr never takes title, never holds stock and never holds your money.
