The range above is an indicative planning figure taken from our own research, not a quotation and not an offer. buytogethr is pre-launch and has closed no pools.

What you are actually buying

An operating table is a base, a column and a sectional tabletop, and the sections and accessories are determined by the lists the theatre actually runs: general, orthopaedic with a traction attachment, obstetric, or urology with drainage and translucent sections. Quotes diverge on control type, hydraulic through electro-hydraulic to fully electric, on battery-backed operation and the manual override path, on maximum safe working load and articulation range, on which tabletop sections are radiolucent, and most of all on accessories. Buyers habitually settle the table and leave leg holders, arm boards, head rests, side rails and mattresses to be sorted later, which is exactly where two quotes stop being comparable.

Why ot table suits collective purchasing

This is among the better early categories. Every theatre needs a table, a group of institutions generates far more tables than scanners, and the specification collapses into two or three tiers by surgical discipline. The supply side is broad, with imported and Indian manufacturers both credible, so technical qualification followed by competitive bidding has real depth. Because the product is mechanical rather than software-bound, technical evaluation is largely physical inspection and demonstration, which a group can arrange once on behalf of everyone rather than each institution repeating it alone in its own purchase.

Pin down before price

  • Control type, with battery-backed operation and a manual override path for power failure
  • Maximum safe working load and articulation range: Trendelenburg, lateral tilt, flex and reflex
  • Which tabletop sections are radiolucent, and the clear longitudinal access for a C-arm
  • The accessory schedule listed item by item, with any traction or fracture attachment quoted separately
  • Mattress specification, cleanability and compatibility with the theatre's disinfection protocol

What drives ten-year cost

  • Mattress and pad replacement on a fixed cycle, routinely left out of purchase comparisons
  • Actuators, hydraulic seals and battery packs, the wear items on any powered table
  • Availability of spare accessories and parts years after supply, which is why the make matters more than the opening price

How a pool for this runs

1
Aggregate the demand. Institutions register a requirement and a timeline. Nothing is committed and nothing is paid — the pool simply establishes how much demand exists in one window.
2
Standardise the specification. One technical specification is written for the pooled requirement, so every bidder quotes the same machine. Clinical and engineering specification is never traded away for price.
3
Qualify the suppliers. OEMs and authorised distributors are qualified on manufacturer authorisation, past performance, end-user certificates, financials and demonstration — before any price is opened.
4
Run the price competition. Only technically qualified bidders enter an online reverse auction, with a minimum decrement and automatic extension so the close cannot be sniped.
5
Award on ten-year cost. Lowest is judged on total cost of ownership over ten years — machine, turnkey, software, accessories, transport, insurance, taxes, warranty, maintenance contract, tubes, uptime and training.
6
Buy directly, individually. Each institution raises its own purchase order against the negotiated price and pays the OEM or dealer directly. buytogethr never takes title, never holds stock and never holds your money.
